Original Piper Prints Block Print “HIllside Trees” by Nate Piper 8.25”x6.75” /ro

Rare find, Original Block Print by Piper Prints of Long Beach California by Natt Piper titled “Hillside Trees”. Art deco style rendition of a young California hillside, colors are still rich. Numbered, titled and Signed on the front in pencil by artist. Back has the paper name plate. The actual print measures 6.75” x 8.25” in original matt and frame. Overmatt is stained from having another picture displayed on top of this print. One small spot of damage found on the upper right hand corner. Please review all photos for color and condition of print. Frame measures 14” long by 12” wide. Frame is worn from age, use and display, but looks original to matt and art.

Please check out this early California Plein Air Foothill paintings by listed husband and wife artist Natt and Edna Badgley Piper. Natt was born in Pueblo, CO on Oct. 31, 1886, and was an architect who in his leisure made block prints and painted. After settling in Long Beach, CA in 1918, he studied locally with Fanshaw and Richter. Edna Badgley Piper was born in Missouri on Nov. 9, 1883, and moved to southern California in 1918. After the two married in 1924, they settled in Long Beach. They both were pupils in the printmaking class taught by H. Valentine Fanshaw. Mrs. Piper died in Bishop, CA on Oct. 16, 1965 and Natt died in Paradise, CA on Aug. 28, 1969.
